The Kids are Back in School...

So summer has come and go and here in Alberta, Canada we did not see the sun much, so heading back to school feels way too soon. I wanted to briefly talk about how to connect to your children around their school life. Whether you have a young child or older one, sometimes parents find it difficult to find the right questions to ask. If your like me and offer the traditional "How was your day?", then maybe you have a kid like mine who replies "Good" or "fine", well here is a little extra help to have that open communication that we as parents long for with our children. Tell me about the best part of your day.

What was the hardest thing you had to do today?

Did any of your classmates do anything funny?

Tell me about what you read in class.

Who did you play with today? What did you play?

Do you think math [or any subject] is too easy or too hard?

What's the biggest difference between this year and last year?

What rules are different at school than our rules at home? Do you think they're fair?

Who did you sit with at lunch?

Can you show me something you learned (or did) today?
